Travel: Minimal travel as required to support customer meetings and mission requirements.
Background: Vectrona is seeking an experienced Public Affairs Specialist to support the planning, development, and execution of a comprehensive public affairs program for a Navy command. The successful candidate will create and manage strategic communications, multimedia content, public outreach initiatives, and digital communications while promoting command accomplishments, supporting leadership engagement, and ensuring timely, accurate communication with internal and external audiences.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Develop, write, edit, and publish news releases, feature stories, newsletters, speeches, social media content, and other communication products in accordance with Navy Public Affairs guidance and Associated Press style.
- Provide professional photography, videography, audio production, and multimedia support for command events, ceremonies, and official activities.
- Manage and maintain command websites, social media platforms, digital signage, web calendars, and other communication channels to ensure timely dissemination of information.
- Design and produce promotional materials, brochures, invitations, programs, flyers, presentations, and other visual communication products using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Collaborate with command leadership to develop communication strategies that promote mission objectives and enhance engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support crisis communication and emergency response efforts by serving as a Public Affairs representative, coordinating media activities, and providing timely information during incidents.
- Coordinate audiovisual support and event setup for command ceremonies, public events, and leadership engagements.
- Respond to public and media inquiries while providing professional customer service and maintaining effective relationships with Government personnel and external organizations.
Preferred Education/Degree:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Political Science, or a related field.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in public affairs, communications, journalism, or media relations, preferably supporting the Department of Defense or U.S. Navy.
- Experience developing communication plans, news releases, newsletters, speeches, feature stories, brochures, and digital content for multiple audiences.
- Proficiency in professional photography, videography, digital imaging, podcast production, and multimedia editing.
- Experience managing websites, social media platforms, digital signage, and other electronic communication channels.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Audition.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher.
- Familiarity with the Associated Press Stylebook, U.S. Navy Style Guide, and Navy Public Affairs policies and procedures.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively represent the command in both routine and crisis communication environments.
- Knowledge of Navy operations, shipbuilding, or ship maintenance environments is highly desirable.
