Nuclear Health Physics Consultant (1099)


Status: Part-Time (1099)

Background: Vectrona is seeking a talented Health Physicist that wants to develop cutting-edge Extended Reality (XR) training programs. Your role will primarily focus on guiding XR training scenarios development. The scenarios may include some or all the following areas: general health physics practices for uranium fuel cycle facilities, basic theories and mechanics of environmental monitoring for radioactivity; techniques for air monitoring; soil, water, vegetation, sediment, and food sampling; direct gamma measurements; borehole logging; and environmental sampling.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert for task orders focused on health physics education and training.
  • Design and guide the development of XR training scenarios in health physics, ensuring they meet educational and regulatory standards.
  • Work closely with XR developers to translate complex health physics concepts into engaging and informative training experiences.
  • Update and maintain training modules to reflect the latest in health physics research, practices, and regulations.
  • Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of training modules and make recommendations for improvements.

Education/Degree(minimum):

  • Bachelor’s degree in health physics, Radiological Science, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) Certification or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) (strongly preferred)
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in nuclear health physics, with significant exposure to educational or training roles.
  • Deep understanding of radiation safety, environmental monitoring, and nuclear medicine.
  • Experience in developing technical training materials, with a preference for candidates who have worked with XR technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Expert knowledge of health physics and its application in nuclear safety and medicine.
  • Familiarity with XR technology and its application in educational settings.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to non-expert audiences.
  • Able to prioritize work, and shift priorities as needed to meet aggressive deadlines
