NGB J52 Senior Strategic Analyst

Salary Range: $102,500-$111,000

Travel: Less than 5%, with travel as required

The NGB J52 Senior Strategic Analyst helps ensure National Guard equities are understood, represented, and advanced within broader Joint and Department of Defense strategy and planning efforts. This role supports senior leaders by reviewing strategic guidance, analyzing implications for the National Guard, and developing clear recommendations, policy inputs, and decision support products. By turning complex national level strategy and planning requirements into actionable insight, this position helps NGB leaders make informed decisions and position the Guard effectively within the broader national defense enterprise.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Review Joint Strategic Planning System documents and related strategic guidance
  • Conduct analysis and recommend comments, inputs, and courses of action
  • Conduct research and analysis to support senior leader efforts to advance National Guard equities
  • Develop strategy, policy, and briefing products in support of National Guard strategic initiatives
  • Prepare national level strategy and policy papers and briefings for General Officers, Flag Officers, and DoD Senior Executives
  • Participate in meetings and workshops concerning National Guard missions and priorities
  • Support coordination with Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, and other DoD stakeholders
  • Help identify strategic issues, risks, and planning considerations that may affect the National Guard
  • Manage competing priorities and adjust quickly to changing requirements and deadlines

Preferred Education/Degree:

  • Master’s degree in National Security, Government Policy, International Affairs, or a related discipline required
  • Senior Service College preferred

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of successful experience in a Joint Staff J5 or Combatant Command J5 environment
  • 3+ years of experience preparing national level strategy and policy papers and briefings for senior DoD leaders
  • Familiarity with key components of the Joint Strategic Planning System
  • Familiarity with Global Force Management processes
  • Understanding of National Guard missions in both homeland and overseas operations
  • Knowledge of National Guard duty statuses, including State Active Duty, Title 32, and Title 10
  • Familiarity with core National Guard governing documents, including DoD Directive 5105.77
  • Experience with or supporting the National Guard preferred
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, planning, and coordination skills
  • Ability to tailor communications for senior leaders and varied stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize work and shift focus as mission requirements change
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
