Background
Vectrona is seeking a seasoned F-16 Electrical Systems Subject Matter Expert to support the development and implementation of advanced mixed reality training experiences for F-16 maintenance personnel. This role will focus specifically on the F-16 electrical system and related maintenance tasks, helping ensure that ACE-XR training content accurately reflects real-world aircraft maintenance procedures, troubleshooting practices, safety requirements, and technical order guidance.
The SME will work closely with Vectrona’s ACE-XR team, including software developers, instructional designers, aviation SMEs, and project leadership, to create accurate, immersive, and instructionally sound training experiences that improve maintenance proficiency, system understanding, and operational readiness.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Electrical Systems Expertise: Provide in-depth knowledge of F-16 electrical systems, including aircraft power generation, distribution, control, protection, wiring, circuit protection, external power, batteries, relays, buses, and related components.
• Technical Content Development: Support the creation, review, and validation of mixed reality training content focused on F-16 electrical system operation, inspection, troubleshooting, component identification, and maintenance procedures.
• Technical Order Review: Review applicable F-16 Technical Orders, maintenance manuals, diagrams, schematics, and job guides to ensure ACE-XR training content is technically accurate and aligned with approved maintenance guidance.
• Troubleshooting Support: Provide expert input on common electrical system faults, diagnostic procedures, maintenance decision points, safety precautions, and corrective actions.
• Collaboration: Work with software developers, instructional designers, 3D artists, and other SMEs to translate technical procedures into accurate and effective XR training experiences.
• Training Validation: Review storyboards, scripts, interactive training sequences, knowledge checks, and virtual maintenance activities for technical accuracy and training effectiveness.
• Safety Standards: Ensure all electrical maintenance content reflects proper safety practices, including aircraft grounding, power-on/power-off precautions, electrical hazard awareness, and compliance with applicable safety procedures.
• Customer and Team Support: Participate in technical reviews, customer demonstrations, feedback sessions, and content validation meetings as needed.
Education/Degree Minimum
A bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, aviation maintenance, or a related field is preferred. Extensive hands-on F-16 electrical maintenance experience, military training, and relevant certifications may substitute for formal education.
Qualifications
• Hands-On Experience: 10-12 years of aircraft maintenance experience, with significant experience maintaining, troubleshooting, or supervising maintenance on F-16 electrical systems.
• F-16 Maintenance Background: Direct experience working on F-16 aircraft in a military, depot, contractor logistics support, or aerospace maintenance environment.
• Electrical System Knowledge: Strong understanding of F-16 electrical power generation, distribution, control, circuit protection, wiring, connectors, fault isolation, and related maintenance procedures.
• Technical Order Familiarity: Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply F-16 Technical Orders, wiring diagrams, schematics, maintenance manuals, and job guides.
• Military Training: Completion of official military aircraft maintenance training, preferably specific to the F-16 or equivalent fighter aircraft platform.
• Instructional Support Experience: Experience supporting training development, instructor-led training, technical curriculum review, or maintenance qualification programs is preferred.
• Civilian Certifications: FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification or other recognized aviation maintenance credentials are advantageous but not required.
Knowledge and Skills
• Extensive knowledge of F-16 electrical system principles, components, and maintenance requirements
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills related to aircraft electrical systems
• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to non-specialists
• Familiarity with aviation safety standards, maintenance discipline, and regulatory compliance
• Ability to work collaboratively with technical, creative, and instructional teams
• Strong attention to detail when reviewing procedures, scripts, 3D content, and training interactions
• Comfortable supporting remote meetings, technical reviews, and occasional travel as needed
